Addleshaw Goddard wins top award for flexible working programme

Law firm Addleshaw Goddard has won the Opportunity Now Advancing Women in Business Award for the implementation of its flexible working programme.

Opportunity Now is a membership organisation for employers who are committed to creating an inclusive workplace for women and the annual Awards are widely recognised as the UK's most prestigious workplace awards for gender equality, diversity and inclusion.

Opportunity Now provides innovative thought leadership on gender issues in the workplace - developing, sharing and celebrating best practice in overcoming the challenges employers face in the recruitment, retention and development of women. The patron of the awards is Cherie Booth QC, who also attended last night's ceremony.

The Advancing Women in Business award is given for a programme or work aimed at addressing equality, diversity and inclusion with a focus on women and fellow nominees were PriceWaterhouseCoopers, BAE Systems and B&Q. The award was collected by Monica Burch, partner and board member, Jane Hollinshead, partner and real estate executive committee member and Katherine Hallam, head of diversity - all three work flexibly and have worked on the firm's flexible working initiatives.

Judith Hardy, Addleshaw Goddard's HR director said: "We are delighted to have won this prestigious award, particularly against such excellent competition. Our flexible working and diversity programmes are now thoroughly embedded in the firm, and help us to attract, engage, and most importantly, retain really great people."

Addleshaw Goddard was the only law firm to be nominated at the awards, and is also the only law firm to be recognised in the Sunday Times 100 Best Companies to Work For, the Sunday Times Top 100 Graduate Employers, and the Top 50 Places Where Women Want to Work. The firm has also just launched a piece of research with Working Families entitled 'Legal Lives', looking at flexible working amongst law firms. The research is due to be published in October.
