Inaugural Leeds business week to promote city to mass audience

Firms in Leeds will bang the drum for the city during a week-long celebration of its growing importance as an international business centre.

The city's first Business Expo, organised by Leeds Chamber of Commerce, will form a key part of the inaugural Leeds Business Week.

Backed by Marketing Leeds, the city's destination marketing agency, Leeds Business Week will run from June 2 to 6 and it is aimed at all levels of business.

The two-day Business Expo, at Leeds Town Hall on June 2 and 3, will help local organisations promote their business to national and international audiences.

Gillian Boulton, business services manager at Leeds Chamber, said: "We are looking forward to Leeds Business Week and our event, the Business Expo, will support and encourage the local business community to profile their offering to a mass audience.

"And, in working with many local organisations to stage this event, we will ensure all attendees know that Leeds is indeed the business powerhouse of the region."

Leeds Business Week will be launched at a breakfast and networking event at the Hilton Leeds City Hotel on June 2, where speakers will include Yorkshire Forward chief executive, Tom Riordan, and event sponsor Yorkshire Bank's operations director, Glenn King.

Mike Firth, founder of the annual Yorkshire International Business Convention, will then host an 'Are You Smarter Than A Chief Executive?' quiz pitting four business executives against a team of four students.

Leeds Business Week will conclude at the annual Yorkshire International Business Convention, at Harrogate's Yorkshire Event Centre, on June 6. Speakers there include former Australian Prime Minister, John Howard, supermodel Elle Macpherson and boxing legend, George Foreman.
